In machine vision applications, data transmission rate and distance, cable routing, and environmental conditions need to be taken into consideration. Here we mainly focus on two aspects. One is the flexibility of the cable, and the significance of the cable material itself.

1. Flexibility of connecting cables

In this application, the camera is easily attached to a moving device and needs to be able to withstand constant bending.

These robotic or track-grade cables are tested through repeated movements to simulate use on robotic systems or energy chains. Cable characteristics are the minimum radius angle and the number of bends during a given period of time. Traction chains are a method of protecting cables connected to mechanical parts that are constantly moving. The energy chain ensures that the minimum bending radius of the cable is not insufficient. Track-grade cables are typically designed to withstand more than 1 million bends at a minimum radius. Mechanical-grade cables are subject to an additional torsional bend test, which stipulates that the cable can be repeatedly twisted 360° over a specified length.

2. Low smoke and halogen-free cable material

This feature is targeted at the professional environment in which traditional cables will be burned by toxic black smoke containing heavy hydrochloric acid. Breathing this fume is dangerous, significantly reduces visibility, and is corrosive. Therefore, halogen-free cables are often specified in industry standards or industrial applications because they offer significant safety advantages while also reducing environmental damage.
